And it starts again

Today is the Prospective Student day for my program--lots of things to do and I'm still sitting in bed wondering if I should participate or not. It's not that I'm bitter about something and just don't want to go--it's more that I called in "sick" to work today and I'm afraid of being found out. Well, to be fair, I really was not feeling all that great--definitely drained and should a drained person REALLY be forced into seven hours of customer service? No, I think not. So I'm semi-sick. It's more of a mental thing, really, and it's raining and gray, which makes me want to curl up in this fabulous bed of mine and catch a little nap. But alas... I have too much work.

So anyway--the prospective people are currently lunching, probably on catered sandwich rolls, potato salad, chips, etc., and here I am in bed blogging and working on a paper for work. The month of April is going to be chaotic for me--I need to get into things now, which means that I probably shouldn't be socializing as much this weekend. Sigh. So we'll probably have at least 5 new fiction people for next semester--AND I've taken six classes already. Six of the ten that I need to graduate. I feel cheated out of the 3 year program that I thought I would have. I'll likely be finished by next December (if not May) and I'm starting to feel rushed. I haven't even been writing! I write when I have to, not when I want to, because I work so damn much just to stay afloat. I can't blame anyone but myself for this, however, but it sure is nice to bitch about it.

Other news: nothing to report. How sad.

Can you tell me more about your program and classes? I'm not going there, but I'm still trying to get as many different MFA accounts as I can. How are you finishing so fast if it's supposed to be a 3 yr program? Are you working on campus, work study or TA or something?

If you don't mind giving me details (as general or specific as you feel comfortable with) I'd really appreciate it!

Wait! You are going to be finished when?!?! Oh my goodness. What happens then? I mean, not to stress you out or anything.

Wow. You're flying through the program! That's crazy. Got a notion for your thesis yet?

I can't wait for this semester to be over because I want to work on novels again not grading student papers.

The program is presented as a 3-year program, but that's really only for students who manage to get funded (they can only take 2 classes a semester and teach). The funding I got required full-time status. So, I'm moving fast becuase I've had to take 3 classes each semester--out of 10 total courses to finish up the degree. So, if it keeps going at this rate I'll be done either next May or December (probably December). I applied for a GAship and had an interview last week (will hear this week sometime) and if I get it, I'll be able to slow down a bit and take only 2 classes. If not--I'm gonna keep truckin' and get out earlier.

What's next? Who knows!!

Wow! Are you disappointed that it's going so fast? I'm still reading your archives... I guess I'm to November 08 now, so I'm still a bit behind.

Anyway, thanks for the info! And yup, I've settled on George Mason! Fully funded, TA position for all three years, the works! I'm going Thursday to visit the campus and sign! Sooo excited. Now I just need to...um, WRITE.
